I. Courage is a Women’s Game
Friday’s screen is all female. unDependence has curated a selection of films about strong women figures. Strength and independence are not considered “female” character trades and the women who show them have often become protagonists of dark legends. Boogeywomen who devour men, femmes fatales. But we admire them. From countries as diverse as the U.S., India, Germany, China and Indonesia, we bring you tales of love, courage and resistance.
- 21st CENTURY WOMAN– Reeta Vaparna (2:30)
- THE SEAM – Matthias Wissmann (17:23)
- DARE NOT FLY – Chuyi Chen (18:18)
- BRIDES OF THE WELL – Shekar Kapur (2:53)
- THE BOOGEYWOMAN – Erica Scoggins (17:00)
- SPORTS DAY – Lin Tu (10:54)
II. Leeds Animation Workshop Show
For the second part of our Friday night, we are thrilled to introduce you to our special guests from the Leeds Animation Workshop, a not-for-profit, cooperative company, run by women, which produces and distributes animated films and films on social and educational issues. The organisation began in 1976 as a group of women friends who came together to make a film about the need for more extensive child-care. The workshop specialises in making complex questions and issues more understandable and accessible to audiences and often also offer ideas for the solution of these conflicts. We at unDependence are proud to be able to introduce you to some of the members and they will be showing a compilation of their work of the past 40years as well as pariticipate in a Q&A with our audience.
